After graduating from the University of Texas School of Law in 2004 (LL.M.), I realized that there was a need for ethical representation for foreigners doing business in Mexico. I decided then to start my own practice dedicated exclusively to represent foreigners with legal issues in Mexico.

Professional experience

Carlos Hernandez-Ojeda, LL.M.

Carlos is a licensed Mexican Attorney specialized in Mexican Real Estate and Corporate laws. After several years of practicing as an Attorney in Mexico City, Carlos relocated to Austin, Texas to pursue his Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) from The University of Texas at Austin, School of Law, where he graduated in 2004. His main areas of studies in American law were business, contract and immigration law.

His transactional experience as a Mexican Attorney include counseling clients buying Real Estate in Mexico (border and coastal properties), incorporation and organization of new businesses in Mexico, review of transactional matters, cross border financing and other Mexican law related matters.

Because of his experience in Real Estate in Austin and after working for American law firms, he understands the needs and expectations of American clients when retaining a Mexican Attorney. His association with top Mexican Attorneys and law firms allow him to represent clients in a cost effective but competent manner.

His goal is to make American clients comfortable knowing that they are represented by a highly trained and ethical professional.

Experience

Counsel to clients in cross-border investments and negotiations.
Main areas of practice include cross-border real estate investments, business/corporate, labor and immigration law.
Advisor on international mergers and acquisitions, negotiation and drafting of legal documents including joint venture agreements and Mexican government contracts.
Legal representation including incorporation and governance of new businesses, negotiation of existing and new real estate contracts, review and negotiation of real estate trusts, promissory agreements, lump sum agreements, permits, escrow, due diligence, deeds and other related documents involved in real estate transactions in Mexico.
Clients include real estate investors from California, Texas and Edmonton (Canada) with business and investments in Mexico.
Coordinate and oversee local counsel in Mexico to assist with legal matters requiring presence in different cities of Mexico.
Represented investors, sellers and buyers in purchase, sale and lease of over 13 million dollars of residential real estate in Texas.
Assisted clients with contract negotiation, escrow and secure domestic and international financing.
